NORTON, MA – A pair of multi-sport, first-years placed top three in their events during the Lyons Invitational hosted by head coach
Ryan O'Connell's former four-year employer, Wheaton College.
OVERVIEW:
Seven collegiate teams throughout the DIII Mideast Region received an invitation to compete in the Lyon's Invitational set for Friday afternoon. Along with the Lyon's of Wheaton College and your Colby-Sawyer Chargers came Tufts University, UMass Dartmouth, the US Coast Guard Academy, Connecticut College, and Brandeis University.
MEN'S:
This past season's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Cross-Country Runner and Rookie of the year,
Dylan Flewelling, placed second of eight in the 5000-meter dash.
Within the same event, senior
Spencer McClary finished two seconds faster than his previously set personal record of 17:43.65 recorded during the University of Southern Maine's Invitational (USM Invite).
WOMEN'S:
First-year GNAC Cross-Country Champion
Samantha Carus placed third of 10 in the 5000-meter dash, recording a final time of 19:21.78. Fellow teammate and first-year champion
Heather Hanson placed 10
th out of 21 runners competing in the 800-meter dash. Hanson joined the personal record list cutting her final time of 2:36.20 set in the USM Invite by three and a half seconds.
On January 15
th, during the Peter Slovenski Invitational, third-year
Abby Hamelin documented a final time of 1:20.22 in the 400-meter race. Today, the junior ran the same event in 1:17.13, collecting a time decrease of almost three seconds.

Both teams received the seventh spot and look forward to their next meet set to be hosted next Saturday, January 29
th, by Lyon's Invitational men's and women's first-place winner Tufts University.
