Alberti and O’Connell Receive 2022 United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United States Coaches announced the 2022 All-Region Teams featuring two Chargers from the women's soccer program. Senior Thea Alberti (Wilmington, Mass.) and sophomore Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) earned a selection to the All-Region Third Team.

Alberti played a central role in the Charger's defensive throughout the 2022 season. The senior captain started in all 17 games she played in notching two goals during the Northern Vermont University – Johnson game on September 14th. Alberti was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Third All-Conference Team at the end of season.

"I am extremely honored and grateful to be chosen for the 2022 United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team," said Alberti. "This season has been the best one yet and I am happy with how my team played this season. I am proud to represent Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer. Congratulations to all!"

O'Connell had an impressive 2022 season leading the team with 10 goals, tied for ninth in the conference, and 24 points. She tallied her first two goals and an assist on September 10th in the victory over Anna Maria College. O'Connell joined Alberti on the GNAC Third All-Conference Team at the end of the season.

"I am so excited to be named to the All-Region Third team," said O'Connell. "I know that this is something that is not easy to achieve. I am so grateful to be recognized for all the hard work I put in. I'm excited to keep working and for even better seasons to come. I also want to thank Anthony and the entire team for supporting me and pushing me throughout the season."

Coach's Corner:
"I'm really happy for Thea and Bridget to get selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team," said head coach Anthony Cosky. "They both had great seasons and the coaches from the teams we played in our conference and non-conference games recognized how well these two played and this is very deserving. I feel like the GNAC was very well represented which is great to see and to have a couple of our players selected is great for our program as well.

Thea was our leader and captain at center back and she's a shutdown defender who dealt with some of the top forwards in our conference every game. Thea has the size, speed and physicality and can defend one-versus-one as well as read the game very well. She showed great leadership and pushed everyone to be better and was a vital part of our success this past season. She will be missed greatly, and it will be very difficult to replace her at center back.

Bridget was one of the most dangerous forwards in our conference and every game was capable of scoring multiple goals.  She finished 20th in all of Division III in shots per game, which shows how much she was able to get in behind and create scoring opportunities. With two more years here, I know Bridget will take her game to an even higher level and continue to help our team strive for our main goal which is winning a conference championship."
