Ryan O'Connell Named 2022 GNAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year

WINTHROP, Mass. - On Monday, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced head coach Ryan O'Connell as the 2022 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

O'Connell, who earned both the men's and women's coach of the year awards in 2021, led the Colby-Sawyer women to their third GNAC championship title. O'Connell coached senior Shannon O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.), the 2022 GNAC Women's Runner of the Year as well as sophomore Samantha Carus (Brownfield, Maine), the top finisher for the Chargers at the NCAA Division III East Regionals. O'Connell now has four coach of the year honors since becoming a Charger.

"I feel very honored to be named coach of the year," said O'Connell. "Everyone knows coaches don't do much to win these. These awards are won by the student-athletes. They are the ones who go out there and race and put everything on the line. Without all their hard work all year long awards like this are not possible. It's not an individual award for me it's a team award. It's a runners sport, I'm just here trying not to mess it up."
