CHARGERS REMAIN UNDEFEATED IN CONFERENCE PLAY AFTER 5-1 WIN

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team remained unblemished in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) competition on Wednesday evening, topping the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), 5-1, at the USJ Field Hockey Field.

Rapid Recap:

  • Colby-Sawyer established command early in the opening quarter. Just 5:07 into the contest, junior Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) found the back of the cage unassisted for her 19th goal of the season to give the Chargers a 1-0 edge.

  • Farquhar turned facilitator just over three minutes later, setting up sophomore Jillian Fredette (Weare, N.H.) at the 8:16 mark to double the Colby-Sawyer cushion.

  • The Chargers added to their advantage 23 seconds into the second period when sophomore Emily Fredette connected with sophomore Luci Walden (Bellingham, Mass.), who finished at 15:23 to make it 3-0 heading into halftime.

  • The Blue Jays broke through early in the second half as Alexa Maser scored at 30:56 to cut the deficit to 3-1.

  • Colby-Sawyer put any comeback thoughts to rest with a fourth-quarter flurry, striking twice in a 34-second span. Sophomore Zoe Dries (Windham, Maine) buried an unassisted marker at 55:40 before junior Lily Goerlich (Amherst, N.H.) linked up with Farquhar at 56:14 to push the final margin to 5-1.
