WATERVILLE, Maine – The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team opened its 2026 campaign on Saturday afternoon, falling to Thomas College by a 2-0 final at Smith Field.

Colby-Sawyer created quality opportunities early in the opening half, earning five corner kicks and placing five shots on frame. However, Terriers goalkeeper Emily Rock turned away every Charger attempt to keep the contest scoreless deep into the frame.

Thomas capitalized in the final minutes before the break, breaking the deadlock at the 41:07 mark when Briley Rutledge finished a feed from Ally Southwick to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage at halftime.

The Chargers continued to press forward in search of the equalizer to start the second half, but Thomas extended its cushion at 61:30 as Rutledge netted her second goal of the afternoon off a pass from Yaribel Pena.

Colby-Sawyer maintained persistent pressure down the stretch, earning five second-half corner kicks and generating shots on target from First-Year Olivia Barrett (Orange, Conn.), First-Year Sophia Wooten (Griswold, Conn.), and Senior Ellie Smith (Plymouth, Mass.), but Rock and the Terrier defense held firm to close out the game.

Despite the final score, Colby-Sawyer held the advantage in total shots (13-9), shots on goal (8-5), and corner kicks (10-5).

Barrett led the Charger offensive push, placing all three of her shots on goal. Wooten and Smith each tallied three shots, with two on target apiece.

Senior goalkeeper Lyndsey Valletta (Macedon, N.Y.) started in net for Colby-Sawyer, logging 45 minutes with one save. Junior Nicole Morello (Wilmington, Mass.) took over in the second half, turning away two shots across 45 minutes of action.
