NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 20, 2020 – The Colby-Sawyer College baseball team has been chosen to finish seventh in the 2020 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings.  

Suffolk was voted as the favorite to get back on top of the GNAC after receiving 76 points, including six first place votes. Reigning GNAC champion Saint Joseph's (Maine) was selected second with 71 points and two first-place vote. Johnson & Wales, the 2019 runner-up, received the final first-place vote to finish in third with 67 points. Anna Maria took fourth totaling 48 points, while Lasell finished with 46 points. Albertus Magnus was voted sixth with 41 points and Colby-Sawyer was picked seventh with 24 points. Norwich (22) and Rivier (10) rounded out the poll in eighth and ninth, respectively. Colby-Sawyer will be led by Jim Broughton for the 26th consecutive season. The Chargers will be led by utility extraordinaire senior Tim Unczur (Danvers, Mass.). Unczur landed on the All-GNAC Third Team last season after collecting three wins, three complete games, two shutouts, and 30 strikeouts on the mound. As a hitter, Unczur led the team with 19 runs and a pair of homeruns. He was third on the team with a .286 batting average, third with 30 hits, third with five doubles, third with 41 total bases, and third with six stolen bases.    

Colby-Sawyer opens the season at Springfield College on March 4 for a single game against the Pride. The team then heads south for the annual Spring Break Florida trip, which features 10 games with four doubleheaders and a pair of nine inning games. When the Chargers return home, they will have a non-conference doubleheader against Lesley before opening GNAC action at Johnson & Wales on March 21.  Colby-Sawyer is slated to play its first home game on March 29 against Rivier. That will begin a stretch of eight out of the next 13 games at Kelsey Field. The regular season wraps up at home against Anna Maria on April 25. The GNAC postseason is slated to begin on April 28.
