NEW LONDON, N.H. - March 19, 2020 - Colby-Sawyer sophomore
Kaelen Close (Greenfield, Mass.) has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Pitcher of the Week after last week's brilliant performance.
Close tossed a complete game one-hit shutout in his only appearance last week. He threw seven innings and struck out 10. Close was one strike away from the no-hitter, but the D'Youville batter singled to center to break up the bid. He retired the next batter for the complete game one-hitter.
Close finished the shortened season with a 1-0 record and 10.1 innings of shutout ball. He surrendered just three hits and struck out 14 batters, allowing just a .091 batting average against.
